Unfortunately apart from the shocking loss of life, the damage to the nuke power stations by the quake is going to be a majoe issue. Japan will have no choice but to build many new coal / gas fired power stations to meet the huge demand they have for electricity. The emissions will no doubt add further load to our environment.
