Google stuffs up Picasa upgrade by removing integration with Picasa Web Albums

BEWARE: The Google Picasa Windows client upgrade from 3.8 to 3.9 REMOVES integration with Picasa Web Albums and replaces this with the inferior Google+ photos.

I recommend you DO NOT upgrade until they sort this mess out.

Otherwise, if you "upgrade" you will lose the easy ability to:
  • embed photos and slideshows from Picasa Web Albums in a blog or Google site etc.
  • easily create Picasa Web Albums and upload smaller sized photos
This is a REALLY BAD upgrade as it downgrades your functionality.  Google, please reconsider this.

I think you are mistaken. I just upgraded to the new Picasa, uploaded a lot of new albums to Google+ (which, incidentally, has no total upload limit, as long as all your images are at 2058px or below), and can see them all and interact with them normally through Picasa Web albums.

Richard,

That is interesting. So uploading to Google+ actually creates a Picasa Web Album as well? I didn't see that happen.

In any case, the Google+ photo upload only has two size options - Original and Sharing (which is larger than the size options the upload to Picasa Web Albums has.

I have downgraded Picasa to v3.8 so I can keep using it to post web albums directly to Picasa.

I can then choose to share them on Google+

Would you please share exactly how you managed to downgrade?

I too would like to downgrade, but cannot seem to figure out how.

Thanks!

I Googled until I found a website that had a previous version of Picasa still available for download. I downloaded and installed version 3.8.0 (Build 117.43, 0) for Windows.

First uninstall your current version (e.g 3.9) then download and install the previous version you want (e.g. 3.8).

If you search using "Picasa" and a version number you will find archive sites.

Carefully check any website you download from to make sure it is legit and virus free.

Some examples (you must check these yourself) are:

Download Picasa 3.8.0 Free : http://picasa.soft32.com/old-version/340090/3.8.0
